Acclaimed for his inspirational performances and exciting musicianship, Thomas Carroll enjoys a distinguished and varied career as a cellist and, more recently, as a conductor. Having taken the joint first study course in Cello and Conducting in Salzburg, he made his conducting debut performance in the Berlin Philharmonie in 2006 and has since gone on to work with orchestras in the UK and abroad. Last year he completed a tour of the UK, conducting an all Mozart programme of concertos and symphonic repertoire in nine of the country’s major concert halls, in venues such as Symphony Hall Birmingham, Usher Hall Edinburgh and St David's Hall in Cardiff.
Together with principals from many of the London orchestras, he founded the London Beethoven Chamber Orchestra and in April 2012 Thomas was made Artistic Director of the Orpheus Sinfonia. Last year the Orpheus Sinfonia performed a complete Beethoven Symphony Cycle and worked with soloists such as Tasmin Little and guitarist Xuefei Yang. Signum Classics have just brought out the Orpheus Sinfonia's debut CD with the pianist Emmanuel Despax featuring a programme of piano concertos by Saint-Saens, Franck and a world premiere by Stephen Goss.
This year has taken him to Armenia where he conducted in the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall and the Orpheus Sinfonia returned to Cadogan Hall this september to embark on their new Season.
